Say No to Trevor Thomas: Part 2 can be found here.
Welcome to the thrilling conclusion to the Say No to Trevor Thomas series. Alternatively titled, the Misadventures of Subsidy Man. Trevor's final section in his "plan" is titled "A Michigan For Us All". Let's get started.
Page 13: ("Health Comes First")
- He oddly begins with a shout out to Gerald Ford. I hope Trevor realizes the man is dead, and isn't available to endorse him.
- He proudly proclaims his status as "the only pro-choice, pro-women's health candidate in the race". Obviously, the other candidates are for refusing medical treatment to all women for any condition ever. Or, perhaps, they're against senseless murder of unborn children, unlike Trevor Thomas.
- He's "dedicated to making sure women and families have access to vital health services". Clearly, nobody else wants anybody to have health services, simply because they don't support blatantly unconstitutional socialism, which Trevor Thomas would love to usher in.
- He claims women are "under attack" for their "ability to make personal decisions about their own body." Of course, those personal decisions he's referring to is their "right" to choose to murder their unborn child. This entire practice of abortion is horrific and barbaric, and it appalls me that this man is running on a platform of supporting it.
- Now, suddenly, he's against "government intrusion", except for the fact that for the last 12 pages, he was blatantly for it, from regulations, to conservation, to restrictions of the free market. But murder? Nah, government can't intrude on that. What are you, crazy?
- He will vote against "any effort to defund Planned Parenthood" (despite the fact Justin Amash did the same thing, but for significantly different reasons than Trevor. For those wondering, he doesn't believe there is a Constitutional authority for Congress to specifically defund specific organizations, plus the spending would merely be transferred to another entity.)
- He proudly labels himself "son of a breast-cancer survivor", as if that has anything to do with this, and goes on to plug Planned Parenthood. Again.
- In short, now he's shamelessly courting women voters, too.
- Apparently "we must to everything to ensure our seniors are taken care of." I'm not exactly sure where Trevor got the notion that it's the job of the federal government, or any government, to "take care of seniors". In fact, that's about the opposite of what the government should do.
- "We should not add cuts to Medicare", says Thomas, due to those cuts "being wrong". Very persuasive, Trevor. You know what else is wrong? Disregarding your Oath of Office, ignoring the Constitution, and blindly spending money stolen from the taxpayers.
- He even goes as far to claim that cuts to Medicare or Social Security "will not be acceptable solutions to our debt crisis." You heard that right, Trevor Thomas doesn't believe cuts in spending will help solve the massive deficit/debt cycle.
- Trevor is now shamelessly touting Obamacare, because apparently it is a "core democratic value...that everyone...has a right to accessible, affordable health care." I'm not sure what hat you're pulling that rabbit from, Trevor. I can find no justification in the Constitution for such an act (in fact, the Ninth and Tenth Amendments are blatant preventions of such a thing).
- He believes "the individual mandate should be upheld". So, apparently every human being has a right to healthcare, but not a right to not be forced to purchase health insurance. That makes perfect sense, Trevor. You're not inconsistent at all.
- He goes on to say that "insurance companies cannot deny coverage based on pre-existing conditions." I like how on the same page he derides government intrusion, he supports it, so long as it serves his ends.
- Among other asinine programs, Trevor Thomas would support the "Health Kids Outdoor Act", which unconstitutionally funnels money to children's outdoor programs. In addition, he supports the "No Child Left Inside Act", which "encourages" states to develop "environmental literacy tests", whatever the world those are. One can rest assured that it boils down to more spending and more taxation.
- Apparently, everyone "must work to make West Michigan an attractive place for companies to grow and expand." You know, Trevor, if you really wanted to make West Michigan a hub for business, you should probably drop all that regulation you had planned in the first twelve pages of your tome.
- According to Trevor, the past way to make West Michigan an attractive place for companies is to "recognize our critical need to train...lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender people." Apparently, if you don't hire someone from that group, your company can't grow. I'm not even sure how to respond to such nonsense.
- He also wants to "allow benefits for domestic partners", whatever the world that means. Hey, Trevor, you know what would help that problem loads? If the Federal Government would have literally nothing to do with marriage. At all. Or domestic partnerships. These are religious/business partnerships, and as such should have nothing to do with the federal government. Coincidentally, that's Justin Amash's stance. Go figure.
- He has a plan to "work for incentives" (subsidies) for businesses that provide services (government services, that is) to their employees. Because, apparently, they "deserve the benefits". Tax-and-spend man strikes again.
- A quarter page is now devoted to "bullying". Due to the fact that "ten deaths can be attributed to bullying the past decade in Michigan alone", the federal government clearly has to initiate a massively wasteful program to "stop bullying". Apparently, bullying is "a crisis", and not just a bunch of kids acting like, well, a bunch of kids.
- Trevor continues on his path of nonsense by announcing his support to "enact the DREAM Act", which as far as I can tell, exists solely to reward illegal immigrants with amnesty and citizenship. But of course, they're not "illegal". No, doing something that isn't legal doesn't equal illegal to Trevor Thomas. Instead, they're "undocumented". All right, buddy. Whatever helps you sleep at night.
- Trevor moves on to his approval for internet freedom (of which Justin Amash is perhaps Congress' biggest proponent already). However, he claims that it's an issue of "equality", and wants to force internet providers to provide equal service to all areas. What's that, you say? That might make it difficult for them to make a profit, and people in those areas are not obligated to use the services of a company that doesn't provide for their desires? That's ridiculous, of course the solution has to be more blind, government intervention.
- He claims to support "rights to responsible gun ownership", but only refers to hunting. You know what that means! He wants to ban any gun that isn't used for hunting, because obviously they're too unsafe for our little non-government minds to handle.
- He also approves of the upkeep of all federal lands, instead of, you know, allowing that land to be purchased by private citizens for their own use. I haven't the slightest idea why this man thinks that the federal government should own land in states that is not specifically used for military installations (as authorized in the United States Constitution).
- And now, he's saying he'll stand up against indefinite detentions for United States citizens. That's well and good, Trevor, except for the fact that the man you praised a few pages ago (Carl Levin) authored that plan, and the fact that Justin Amash, the man you'll be running against, literally led the fight against it.
- He moves on to elaborate on more asinine economic policies (voicing his support for another program of Obama's. This is at least the fifteenth time so far he's done that). This program, called the Financial Crisis Responsibility Fee, would result in the theft of $50 billion from some of the larger banks. Why? Because obviously "they caused the financial crisis". The inconsistency of Trevor Thomas just gets better and better. Just a few pages ago, he was calling for an increase in credit.
- However, as anyone educated in basic economics should realize, an increase in credit leads to an increase in loans, which leads to malinvestment, which leads to recession. And so on. Ad infinitum. This is known as the Austrian Business Cycle Theory, and it is caused by a central banking system, in this case, the Federal Reserve Board.
- Instead of logically attempting to rid the free market of this cancerous control mechanism, he'd rather loudly yell at those evil banks. Man, indoctrination must be a pain.
- He elaborates for a very long time about his support for the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (or the CFPB). This organization is yet another example of the federal government sticking its nose where it doesn't belong, in this case, "overseeing the financial industry". He once again skilfully dodges the issue of the federal reserve, and rests the blame on the banks. You know what would really help consumers, Trevor? A free market without a central bank.
- Trevor goes on to "fight for measures to reduce foreclosures". Instead of allowing rampant household debt to catch up to those who caused it, he'd rather have the federal government throw money around and hope it goes away. I wonder if Trevor is aware that loans have to be paid back. Judging by his comments regarding student loans, I doubt it.
- He claims these foreclosures are "unnecessary". I suppose that paying back what you owe is "unnecessary" too, right Trevor?
- He also wants to "suppress market manipulation", in other words, suppress the free market. Again. He has the audacity to claim that the federal government should "police commodity markets", of course, they'd need "additional resources to be provided." That is, Trevor Thomas wants to spend more and more money on unconstitutional programs enacted by the federal government to curb the free market, and expand the power of the government. Is that the kind of man we want representing West Michigan?
- He also wants to regulate companies from using "harmful substances", despite the fact that they should be fully allowed to produce whatever they want using whatever they want, and if the consumers don't like it, they could just not buy from that company. It seems like common sense, but men like Trevor Thomas don't operate like that.
- He has the audacity to say that there should be a reduction on campaign finance, despite the fact that most of his economic positions (such as his ludicrous claim to make West Michigan the lithium battery capital of the world) can be directly traced to potential campaign contributions from these industries. Justin Amash has received the vast majority (almost all) of his funds from individual donors. I'm really not sure who you're arguing against anymore, Trevor.
- Good. Lord. I am literally amazed at the sheer arrogance and smugness of this man. He claims to stand for transparency, and promises to be a representative that keeps citizens informed. If Trevor Thomas paid attention to a thing Justin Amash has done or stands for, he would know that Justin Amash started the concept of posting all his votes to Facebook, which Trevor seems to claim as his own plan. If it weren't for Justin Amash doing so, I highly doubt Trevor Thomas would have even thought of such a thing. I'm beginning to become sick.
- We now move on to Section 4, "American Leadership In The World".
- Apparently, American Leadership consists of ludicrous "economic sanctions against Iran" and blatant interference with the nation of Iran. Do I agree with their leadership? Not at all. However, the fact is they do not represent a direct threat to our national security, and if you really wanted to reduce the national debt (as you claim), you wouldn't approve of this rampant interventionism without a purpose.
- Among other things, Trevor Thomas wants to treat China "as a competitor", as though they were an enemy. He wants to punish China for "currency manipulation", despite the fact that our own Federal Reserve Board manipulates our currency here at home, and the fact that China is a sovereign nation that can do as it pleases with its currency.
- In addition, he thinks that they must be stopped from performing "unfair business practices like turning a blind eye to counterfeit goods". That's right, everybody. If China doesn't want to interfere more than it already does in the free market, that's unfair.
- I won't cover his page long ode to Israel, because I'm sure you've heard it out of the mouth of every politician for decades. I do support Israel, but I don't believe we should be interfering in conflicts they definitively have the capacity to handle on their own. I approve giving them a free hand to deal with terrorists and rogue states in whichever way they see fit. Unlike Trevor Thomas, who rambles on and on about "U.S. Aid" and "common values that bond America and Israel together".
- He begins by rambling on about what we should to in Afghanistan, including limiting the number of soldiers and policemen they're allowed to have, and "shifting responsibility", instead of just, you know, leaving.
- Trevor Thomas also wants to continue AIDS relief. I'll be darned if I can find a single authorization in the United States Constitution for spending untold billions of dollars on helping to fight a disease in countries that have literally nothing to do with ours, but I guess Trevor found the secret loophole, known as "Blatantly Ignoring the United States Constitution".
- He continues on his path of spending by the approval of unconstitutionally waging war (without Congressional authorization), which of course only results in more and more spending, and more and more debt.
- However, immediately after this, he moves on to support "significant reforms" to ensure "smart spending" by the Department of Defense. Of course, when he cuts the defense budget, he'll just vote to move all that money to more unconstitutional, pointless social programs instead.
- He supports getting veterans their benefits (which I highly doubt you would find a single politician in America against, way to create some distinction Trevor), and rambles on incessantly about the Department of Veterans Affairs, detailing how they need to study issues and provide simple paperwork. I'm sure you've learned what that means for Trevor Thomas, more spending!
- Finally, on a somewhat confusing close, Trevor Thomas wants to strengthen border security...with Canada. Never mind the millions of people illegally flowing across the Mexican border, Canada's the real threat here.
And just in case you wanted to read his "plan" yourself, it's available on his website. I'd rather not link to it, don't want him to get any views, but it's very easy to find once you're there.
